The term "Mamita" comes from the nickname my father gave me growing up, it is a very common endearment in hispanic/latin cultures. Sustainability and environmental consciousness are fundamental in my life; I make it a priority to consistently practice these principles while outdoors. I love to spend time with my husband and our dog, this usually involves hiking, traveling, or relaxing at home. My faith in Islam, and the Muslim ummah, are very dear to me, which is strongly correlated with my fervent connection to the environment.
Starting an online outdoors guide was not something that I initially wanted to do. I was afraid that I would become too attached to my phone or computer. It is so easy to get caught up in taking pictures and videos of your surroundings rather than just taking in the moment. Pictures and videos are great for memories and sharing with friends, however, they never seem to really capture the beauty as you see it in reality.
I avoid doing this by setting a limit for myself when taking pictures while hiking. Documenting is secondary when enjoying the outdoors! Take hiking as an opportunity to unplug from the world, connect with yourself and the environment around you.
