Outdoor Fails
and
Bloopers

This is a space dedicated to owning our hiking or camping mistakes and embracing the embarrassment. No one is a perfect planner and although we are all serious outdoors enthusiasts or striving to be, it's ok to occasionally highlight the silly moments during our adventures.

Sandy cheeks... and not the squirrel.

A few years ago a friend and I decided to hike The Incline trail in Manitou Springs, Colorado. When we made it high enough to have a nice view of the top, we decided to take a break and I asked a fellow hiker to take our picture. While attempting to get in a good pose position on the steps, I accidentally kicked sand and pebbles into the back of my friend's pants. We spent a good ten minutes trying to discretely clean her butt off and get the rocks out of her pants. To this day she never lets me forget that hike!

Is this considered up-cycling?

In the summer of 2021, my boyfriend and I spontaneously went on a camping trip to Cloudcroft, NM with our dog, Niko. We did not prepare well... Somehow, we forgot Niko’s leash! When we reached the campsite, a park ranger there noticed that Niko was not leashed. We didn’t want to tell her that we forgot his leash (thinking she would probably have to ask us to leave), so I quickly made one with grocery bags and a lanyard I had in the car. Fortunately, Niko never leaves my side, so we really just used the makeshift leash “for show” when the park ranger passed by. She let it slide, but unfortunately, we couldn’t hike much on the trip without his actual leash. One thing we learned from our first time camping together is that preparation is essential!
